Questions

Everything you need
to know before asking.

Every chick is pulled for hand-feeding at 2–3 weeks old and fed formula 3–4 times daily until weaning. During this period they're handled by multiple people daily, exposed to household sounds, introduced to fresh chop and foraging toys, and fitted for a harness. By the time a bird goes home it has logged hundreds of hours of human contact and is comfortable with step-ups, toweling, and carrier travel.
Every bird leaves with a closed band with our aviary code and hatch year, a USDA health certificate, a lineage document showing parents and grandparents (for species where we maintain multi-generational records), a diet and care sheet specific to that individual bird, and our personal phone number for the first 30 days.
Yes — and we encourage it. We schedule aviary visits by appointment only to minimize stress on the flock. You'll meet the available birds, see the nursery, and spend time with the parent pairs. We ask that you shower and change clothes before visiting to protect our closed flock from outside pathogens.
Eclectus pairs typically have a 6–12 month wait depending on breeding season. Hyacinth Macaws run 12–18 months. We don't take deposits for waitlist spots — you'll receive an email when a clutch is confirmed, and you have 72 hours to commit before we move to the next person on the list.
We ship domestically via USDA-approved live bird transport with a licensed carrier. Birds travel in climate-controlled conditions and are never placed in cargo. That said, we strongly prefer in-person pickup — the drive home is often a bird's first experience of its forever family, and we'd rather you be there for it.
You get our direct cell number for 30 days — text or call any time. After that, we have a private owners' group on Signal where Plume families share care updates, ask questions, and post photos. We also offer annual wellness check-ins where you can send video of your bird and we'll give you honest feedback on diet, feather condition, and behavior.
